Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Filler and Botox?

Both Botox and dermal fillers are minimally invasive cosmetic treatments that do not involve surgery.

Botox (anti-wrinkles) works by causing temporary relaxation of the injected muscle. No contraction means no or less wrinkles. It prevents the transmission of the electrical signals to the muscle by blocking acetylcholine, a substance that is responsible for nerve impulses that lead to muscle contraction.

Fillers contain substances (Hyaluronic acid) designed to be injected beneath the skin. These substances add volume and fullness to areas that have lost volume and become thin due to aging. They are usually injected around the lips, cheeks, chin, jaw and underneath the eyes.

Do fillers hurt?

Most of our clients describe the procedure as a small pinch and they report no or little discomfort during the treatment.

Botox are performed by our specialist consultant doctors who are very experienced operators as injections form essential part of their daily hospital work. We use a very thin and tiny needle during our Botox injection called “invisible needle”. We offer topical local anaesthetics if you are anxious about the treatment.

Do I need consultation and consent before the procedure?

In Thame Valley Aesthetic we strongly believe that consultation represents an integral part of the patient journey to obtain the best result. It is a two-way process to help our clients make informed and right decisions based on our doctors’ expertise and the best available evidence.

To ensure total transparency, consent is completed before every procedure by the doctor who is actually performing the treatment.

How safe are aesthetics treatments?

We only use premium safe and trusted products in our practice. All the treatments we offer have excellent and long safety records. However, every medication or procedure can carry a risk. These treatments are specifically regarded as very low risk and most of the side effects will spontaneously resolve over time.

What does the aesthetic treatment involve?

The bespoke treatment plan will be discussed and recommended to the client after the consultation. The treatment areas will be cleaned thoroughly using a disinfectant. Then the procedure will be performed in a calm and safe environment. Clients will go home soon afterward with post-procedure clear instructions.

Do you use natural products?

All the dermal fillers that we use in our practice are Hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a very safe and natural substance that is produced naturally in the skin.

Botox (medical Botulinum Toxin) is very safe and has been used for many years in clinical practice for a wide variety of medical conditions. The medical Botulinum is a highly purified synthetic product subject to strict safety measures.

How do I prepare myself before the aesthetics treatment?

Before the treatment please make sure that you remove all makeup and come fresh faced if possible. Some medications and dietary products may contribute to bruising and best avoided 24 hours prior procedure. This includes alcohol, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Vitamins C & E, Fish oil, Ginkgo Biloba and St. John’s Wort. If you have skin infection or you feel unwell with cold or cough, the treatment cannot be provided to avoid side effects.

If you have other treatments planned, please do not schedule procedures without discussing first with our doctors, including surgery, dental treatments, facials and massage.
