Botox® treatment consultation

Updated: Jun 9, 2021

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX® is the trade name for Botulinum toxin. Botulinum injections are a minimally invasive wrinkles smoothing treatment. They are designed to temporarily relax the facial muscles to reduce the appearance of the wrinkles and the lines, and hence reveal a fresher and youthful look.

You probably know Botox® as the name of anti-wrinkle treatments. However, there are alternative premium products including Bocouture® and Azzalure® that have similar effects.

How does Botulinum toxin work?

Botulinum works by causing temporary relaxation of the injected muscle. No contraction means no or less wrinkles. It prevents the transmission of the electrical signals to the muscle by blocking acetylcholine, a substance that is responsible for nerve impulses that lead to muscle contraction.

Which areas can be treated with Botox®?

Botulinum treatment can be safely used for most people. The treatment delivers extremely good results for people wish to remove wrinkles and treat such issues as forehead lines, frown lines, brow lines, around the eye lines (crow's feet), chin dimpling, bunny lines, gummy smile, in addition to more complex areas such neck bands and corners of the mouth.

What are the advantages of this treatment?

Botulinum treatment is relatively very safe and its youthful effect is subtle and long lasting. Their side effects are usually very minimal and temporary. Our doctors are very experienced with these treatments as injections are already an important part of their daily hospital work.

How long for Botox to work?

The full effect is usually seen within two weeks. However, you will often notice visible results within 72 hours after the injection.

How long does the effect last?

In general, results can last anywhere between four and nine months. Results may vary and everyone has a unique experience. The effect usually lasts longer with repeated treatments.

What does this treatment involve?

You will be seen by our consultant doctor who will take detailed history and thorough examination to make sure that you will be provided with the best treatment. After the consultation you will be able to make a well-informed decision on whether to pursue Botulinum treatment.

The Botulinum is injected into either the skin or into the muscle. Following the treatment, you will resume your activities more or less immediately as there is no recovery time.

Will I have a follow up after the initial treatment?

Some clients may find that they require a minimal touch up to achieve the desirable effect. For this reason, in Thames Valley Aesthetics we offer a complimentary top-up service to our clients within 2 weeks of the initial procedure.
